PROTECT YOUR FAMILY WITH A SECURITY PLAN
Please read the following safety tips to help you to recognise and avoid potentially risky situations
Plan your movements
If walking after dark, walk in a group.
Stick to footpaths.
Get to know the surroundings.
If you are planning to be at work after dark, move your car closer to your location and have your keys in your hand as you approach your car.
Know your transport timetable to avoid long waits at bus or train stations.
If you have trouble speaking english, carry a small document with your name, address, date of birth, telephone number and native language. If you have a local friend who can help interpret for you, include their contact details too.
Do not carry large amounts of money.
Be aware of your surroundings
Be Alert, Assertive and Confident.
Try and walk with other people rather than by yourself.
Carry only the money you need for the day.
Keep your money and wallet in your front pocket and keep your bag in front of you.
Be aware of your surroundings. Avoid listening to your ipod, sms and long conversations on your mobile.
At night stay in well lit areas, where there are lots of people.
If you feel like you are being followed or threatened, cross the street, change direction, vary your pace and enter a shop or occupied house.
If in trouble, make a lot of noise.
Report suspicious behaviour to Police
Remember, most mobile phones will call 000 even when no credit is on the sim card.
If you are being robbed
Give them what they ask for.
Try and remember what they look like.
Report all crimes to police (interpreter services are available)
